Music Fix with Pogo: The Duke Spirit

duke spiritMusic Fix With Pogo: Chicago, we have one of those rare concert experiences coming our way. The kind when the opening band is the bigger reason to go to a gig than the headliner is. That's the case on May 4th at The Metro, when London's The Duke Spirit plays the supporting slot for San Fransisco natives Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Don't get me wrong, I like BRMC quite a lot, and love seeing them live. The all-black clad, lanky members are completely backlit, making them mere shadows on the stage with plenty of fuzzy/feedbacky/bluesy rock. It's just that their latest record, 'Baby 81' is a bit of a dud compared to their 3 previous brilliant ones. So at this moment in time, the excitement squarely revolves around The Duke Spirit. Their new record, 'Neptune', is excellent, and they put on a fiery live show. Frontwoman Liela Moss is the real deal, too. I last caught them in October at the Iceland Airwaves Festival, and after touring pretty much ever since, they'll be at the top of their game. But don't go home when they're finished..BRMC will still be good.

Here's "The Step And Walk" off of 'Neptune', from The Duke Spirit:
